Under a new project, construction of 2 power units, "Interpolis" completed the phase 1 - demolition of 52 buildings and structures as well as preparatory works at construction site.

In November 2011 it was decided to build two CHP units in Chelyabinsk GRES, OAO Fortum. Under a new project, construction of 2 power units, "Interpolis" completed the phase 1 - demolition of 52 buildings and structures as well as preparatory works at construction site.

The construction site covers just under a half of ChGRES area. All works were divided at 3 stages. At stage 1 mazut facilities were demolished. Among the most difficult structures are mazut reservoirs, mazut pumping station, industrial pipelines overpasses.

The most massive industrial buildings were demolished at stage 2. They are boiler-and-welding facilities, warehouse, non-standard equipment shop and others.

Different buildings and structures were demolished at stage 3 such as auxiliary process facilities, different warehouses and so on. 1500 meters railway lines and 3 railway switches were demolished at stages 2 and 3.

"Interpolis" carried out large amounts of works: demolition area was over 14 ha, multi-storey buildings and different structures were demolished with total area of 31 500 m2, 70 000 tonnes of reinforced concrete were removed from demolition area.

"Interpolis" completed works in two and a half months as it was determined by Owner of the project. It was achieved thanks to proper planning and works managing as well as highly skilled specialists and provision with all the machinery needed. The pace of demolition works was rather impressive. "Interpolis" demolished 22 different buildings and structures for 22 days at stage 1. 17 industrial facilities of different kind with total structural volume about 100 000 m3 were demolished in 15 days at stage 2. Works were carried out under any weather conditions by several teams with tens of specialized machinery units: autocranes, tower tracks, excavators, hydrohammers, bulldozers, dump trucks.

"Interpolis" pays special attention to works safety.

"Interpolis" follows international rules and regulations on labour safety. The European Union has banned the use of asbestos since 2005. This substance has a carcinogenic effect. "Interpolis" assumed special measures for labour safety and minimization of ecological risk during demolition of buildings and structures which had been built with asbestos-containing construction materials.

Ecological approach to demolition works allows reducing environmental stress. Some equipment were dismounted and passed to Owner for reuse: pumps, locking accessories, fans, boiler tanks for mazut heating. Building wastes were sorted. As a result 7 000 tonnes of metal were passed for recycling. Unrecyclable wastes were utilized.

Demolition works at ChGRES have started a new large-scale project. After its completion Chelyabinsk region will get new power facilities which is important for future development.
